Edgy and eclectic, Palermo is a symbol of all that Sicily stands for. From buzzing Vespas to the bustling Vucciria market, it simply brims with life.
Wonderful Palermo Cathedral glows radiantly in the Mediterranean sun. Nearby is the city’s last Sicilian Puppet Theater, and across the street is a palm-filled park housing Roman mosaics, though the best are in the archeological museum. At one end is the Norman Palace, a government building home to the fabulous Cappella Palatina, whose gold mosaics are absolutely breathtaking.
Equally magnificent are the gold mosaics lining the 12th-century Monreale Cathedral on the city’s outskirts. Wander the cloisters and note the varying columns and capitals – each pair is different.
Palermo also has fascinating churches: 2 of the oldest are 12th-century San Giovanni degli Eremeti and San Cataldo, each with red, Islamic-style domes. Gesú Church has an incredible Sicilian Baroque interior, while La Martorana’s frescoes are awe-inspiring. A street away is Quattro Canti, an intersection with a fountain in each corner.
Other attractions include the round Teatro Massimo, Mondello beach and Monte Pellegrino mountain overlooking the sea. You get fabulous views of this picnic spot as you fly into Palermo Airport before heading to your Booking.com accommodations.
Exploring the four different quarters was so interesting.
Exploring the four different quarters was so interesting. Loved the Capo street market, on Via Porta Carini. World class flea market at Piazza Marina. Lovely atmosphere in arty bars and restaurants with music in La Kalsa. Didn't like the vibe in Piazza Ballaro fish and veg market as much. It was more like the rough end of the Portobello Rd.

Palermo is a perfect size city for weekend or long weekend...
Palermo is a perfect size city for weekend or long weekend break. It's very lively but we also found it very safe. There is a wide range of food from street food to Michelin star. The street food is an acquired taste. Arancini and bruschette etc are lovely but the intestines and spleen take a bit of getting used to. Don't forget, you will get charged extra in the markets for sitting down to eat their food. Wine can range from €2.50 a glass (€3 for half pint glass in markets) or €8 for a litre up to whatever you want to pay. Spritz in plastic cup walking around is €3 and €6 in a glass sitting in a cafe etc. Lots of churches, palaces, museums etc to see and a nice harbour/marina area. We saw most things in a day and a half and travelled to Cefalu for the other day. Fab. You can access all other cities easily from Palermo Central Station.

It’s a very busy place. Driving in Palermo is scary!
It’s a very busy place. Driving in Palermo is scary!
But restaurants are great and reasonable. The buildings are old, but charming and the mosaics in the churches are really impressive. So much history!
My favorite place was a jewel box of a bakery called Costa that served the most delicious cake.
Ate a delicious dinner at Stabile 169 restaurant.

Palermo is a wonderful city and we're definitely coming back. Easy to walk everywhere, stop and eat something, walk again. From the shore to the city, from the train station to the center, you can lose yourself in this beautiful city.

During the day we walked all over Palermo without concern.
During the day we walked all over Palermo without concern. I saw only one other person with a camera but almost everyone had a smartphone. Therefore, I put my "real" camera away and used my phone as a camera instead. At night, we joined the passeggiata on Via Maqueda where there were a lot of restaurants offering "tagliere" (antipasto severed on a wood plank, i.e. charcuterie board). There are seafood too, which we were looking for. There is plenty of opportunity for "street food" (arancini, Sfincione, spremute) in the street markets (Ballaro, Capo, Vucciria). It is one thing to expect a mix of architectural styles and another to see how a Greek temple was transformed by the Byzantines, and then by the Norman Swabians and then by the Aragonese Spanish. Layers of history, right in front of you.

Palermo is a beautiful combination of the past and present...
Palermo is a beautiful combination of the past and present colliding into a fantastic bouquet. This area was once one you would not want to visit on holiday. However, the crime is now controlled, the young people bring their positive energy to the streets, people are kind, and the market is bustling.
The location of the apartment was great. walking distance to Palermo town city and all site seeing. Me and my husband hire a car for our stay but we did not need it to move about town or Palermo. we only use the car to visit other city in Sicily. The view of the apartment is nice, you get to see the mountains of the island which is very nice. The location is calm at night and come to live in the morning with mini street market on Thursdays. Me and my husband would absolutly come back as the stay was lovely and feel like home.
Benny and B&B Tivitti saved me when I ran into an issue at my other accommodations. I called B&B Tivitti and spoke with Benny and he met me at the B&B five minutes later. As a solo traveler I was so grateful that he was so attentive to the issue I was experiencing and was able to get me a room so quickly. B&B Tivitti is perfect… clean, beautiful, the yummiest breakfast like one of the best breakfasts I’ve enjoyed in Sicily and Benny is super accommodating, helpful with recommendations, and just a wonderful person to know
Was the best room we rent in Sicily and general in Italy. The owner she was amazing. Warm welcome and she help us with our luggages. The location is amazing in 5min you are in center of Palermo and the most important monuments. In 2min walking is a free open parking, we park there our car without any issues. Every morning even the breakfast was not included they prepare coffee to my husband. And they clean the room every day. Amazing atmosphere and decoration. Highly recommended. Thank you so much for all those days ❤️
I didn't know what to expect when I arrived in Palermo, but as soon as I arrived at Casa Nostra Boutique Hotel, I felt welcome. It's a great location because you're close to the heart of the city and major attractions. I even managed to walk up Montepellegrino to Santa Rosalia's Sanctuary and do a day trip to Arigento to the Valley of the Temples with hotel pick-up. They even arranged my early morning lift to the airport. Excellent!
This apartment is very large and comfortable. It's located in the main area of Palermo on a busy street, which is a lot of fun to explore and convenient for visiting surrounding towns/beaches. The apartment was very clean, and the host was EXCEPTIONAL in his helpfulness. We had never been to Sicily, and he happily answered all of our questions and did his best to assist whenever possible. I would highly recommend this apartment!
Laura and Mirko were wonderful hosts. Always checking in that everything was going well and providing wonderful advice on the best local places. The B&B is closet enough to everything but the neighborhood is also quiet enough to get good nights sleep. Breakfasts were wonderful. It was a great place to start our two week sojourn around Sicily. We will definitely stay here again the next time we come to Palermo...
Phenomenal staff, location, and breakfast. As soon as we stepped in the door, we were made to feel right at home in this lovingly curated, boutique hotel. We were provided with excellent dining and shopping recommendations, as well as ideal walking routes to tour the city. Breakfast was absolute perfection. The owner, Alessandro, has created a very special place for visitors in Palermo, and I hope to return soon.
This is the place if you want to experience the real cultural Sicily, with the noisy ,bustling market on the street below [dont worry, great soundproofing balcony windows]. The charming hostess gave me a detailed advisory of places i had to visit. The apartment was nice and cosy and very well equipped. Anything you might need to shop for is only a short walk away. I loved Palermo in general,
The hotel was well situated right opposite the beach and marina, there was also the beautiful botanical gardens around the corner. Palermo overall was a beautiful city with a lovely vibe and a great introduction to Sicily Ror the first time visitor. The staff were warm, professional and pleasant, offering a polite and efficient service...My daughter gave the buffet breakfast two thumbs up...
Located in Ballarò (downtown), next to one of the oldest street markets in Palermo, the most lively one and surely picturesque of Sicily. Nice room and bathroom, with the best breakfast in town (and the best I have tried in Sicily). And all thanks to its host, Mariella 🌞. She is a wonderful human being who makes you feel at home. I cannot describe anything else, just try it.
Great location, close to good restaurants and shops. The host was wonderful and met us at the property. We liked Palermo best out of all the cities we visited in Italy. The weather is perfect in Sicily, nice and hot during the day and cooler at night. The best wine! The best place for an authentic Italian experience! More people should visit this beautiful place.
Considering this is my second time around on an extended stay to Sicily and having stayed at several properties, Valero was by far one of the best host I've encountered. Out of the many features to highlight, the thoughtfulness of having lockers for luggage storage (at no cost) was greatly appreciated. I look forward to returning multiple times over!
This boutique hotel is in THE perfect location! steps from the most popular pedestrian street in historic Palermo! The room was very comfortable and quiet (after 10pm) even though there as this incredibly cool bar next door! The staff was very helpful and the morning cappuccino and breakfast was delicious!
Top location 5 mn walk to super convenient airport bus stop, in pedestrian zone, walking distance to all you need to see in Palermo. very nice house, nice room and bathroom, super friendly and efficient staff and owner.
breakfast as good as it gets in most places in Italy.
Very friendly staff. Delicious breakfast. Excellent location. This was one of our favorite places we stayed at during our trip to Sicily. Easy parking on the street right near the facility. Would definitely book here again if we come back to Palermo.
Central to everywhere in Palermo.
Spotlessly Clean.
Friendly Owner.
Three times we have stayed here in our six times to Sicily.
1 minute walk opposite Taetro Massimo
5 minute walk from Piazza Politiamea(Bus stop from/to the
Airport.)
The house and gardens were beautiful and well looked after. Monica was a very attentive and helpful host. Breakfast was very good. Proximity to the airport and great for exploring Palermo and the west of Sicily.
this city is not as exciting as most other "top choices" in Italy (or Sicily, as the case may be). And we walked at least ten hours through at least ten miles of avenues and side streets and by the water, etc
Amazing location, super clean apartment, and FANTASTIC air conditioning! After walking all day in sweltering Palermo, the AC was a huge bonus. Our best stay in Sicily.
