Rye is a medieval Cinque Port town, full of history which attracts visitors from all over the UK and abroad. Climb the tower of St. Mary's Church, right outside the doorstep of Merrythought Cottage, to take in the breathtaking views of Rye and the surrounding areas. Rye is filled with quirky boutique shops, numerous art galleries and antique stores. The is an array of independent restaurants, wine bars, cafes and pubs throughout the town, so you will never be short of finding somewhere for a quick bite or drink, all within just a few minutes walk of our cottage. Rye Kino Digital Cinema is a 2 screen cinema and stylish cafe/bar which is situated just behind our cottage on Lion Street and shows the latest movie releases. Rye Heritage Centre, Rye Museum and Ypres Tower are perfect ways to start off your stay in Rye to soak up some history. Why not book yourself onto the popular Mapp and Lucia walking tour, or pop into Lamb House (National Trust) built in 1722 and once home to writer Henry James. Again this is just a 2 min walk around Church Square from Merrythought on route to the famous cobbled Mermaid Street. Merrythought Cottage is the perfect base for your stay in Rye.
