With arguably the most impressive Roman heritage outside Rome, Nîmes is truly a sight to behold. Its most awe-inspiring structure is the virtually intact Roman amphitheater. The gladiators are long gone, but a matador statue outside gives an idea of its current use, which is most celebrated during the annual Feria.
Another amazing Roman monument is the Maison Carrée, a colonnaded temple. The Temple of Diana is less well preserved, but still maintains some of its arched roof and interior details. The peaceful, surrounding Fontaine Gardens cover the grounds of the former Roman baths and still contain elegant water features.
Speaking of water, the incredible Pont du Gard is a triple-arched Roman aqueduct crossing a river northeast of Nîmes. Other Roman remains include the Tour Magne, and 2 gates that allowed access through the city walls.
The Nîmes Archaeological Museum in the former Jesuit college provides background to this history and also houses the Warrior of Grezan, a pre-Roman statue. Another museum houses a fine arts collection, and the simple cathedral is also worth visiting.
In addition to plenty of restaurants and bars, Nîmes has a good range of accommodations. Booking.com’s options include luxury hotels by Parc Expo Nimes, and cheap apartments near the train station, all easily accessible from Nîmes-Alès-Camargue-Cévennes Airport.

Amazing town with antiquities, parks & museums, and also a super hub with great rail and bus connections. Walkable (even in the mid summer heat) with lots of places to eat or drink out and watch the world go by.

Full of Roman history, monuments in Nimes are within a walkable distance. Worth buying the Discovery pass which gets you into the amphitheatre, Roman museum, Maisonette Carree and Tour Magne. The pass can be bought from whichever site you first visit.
Also visit the Jardins de la Fontaine. The park is extensive and very impressive and you can see the natural spring that used to be the water source. We found the Castellum where the Romans brought the water supply into Nimes via the Point du Gard. From a central chamber the water was fed out to areas in Nimes through lead pipes. It's amazing to still see where the outlets for the pipes were.
From the bus station in Nimes we went on bus number 121 to Pont du Gard. This is one trip that's a must!! We got off at Vers Pont du Gard. The bus stop names are well displayed on the bus well in advance of the stop. From there was about a 10 minute walk to the visitor centre and another 10 to the aqueduct. There is a cinema and museum in the visitor centre. The museum was quite interesting but the film in the cinema seemed a bit pointless.
We also took the 130 bus to Arles. We bought a Liberty pass that got us into 4 monuments and 1 museum. We did the amphitheatre and the theatre, where we sat with our picnic lunch. The cryptoportiques, where you get to wander in the underground cellars, was more extensive than we had thought it would be. We decided on the Alyscamps for our 4th monument visit. Tombs of Roman and Christians lined the avenue leading out of Arles. Would have liked some more information on what some of the inscriptions could have been.
In Nimes visit Les Halles. This indoor food market has a superb display of produce and even if you are not buying, is well worth the visit.

Nimes is great for a few days; enough museums and Roman history to keep anyone amused for a couple of days (including children) - the town itself is relatively small but has good connections by bus and train to other areas worth exploring. The Tourist Information will provide advice on how to get there.
A combined ticket for the Roman remains and the museum is great value - especially if you engage with the audio guides.

Nimes was much more than we bargained for.
Nimes was much more than we bargained for. We were lucky enough to be there during a festival so each night there were concerts (free) and food and wine stalls. The city is a lively place but relaxing at the same time, I felt refreshed after my few days there and also managed to see way more than I realised was there. You can walk everywhere and also it is very safe at night. There are many fine restaurants and bars.

I've been to Nîmes several times, but this stay was just an overnighter to catch my flight the following day. Nîmes is a very walkable city with a relaxed vibe and many pedestrian areas and green spaces. In the short time I was there, I explored the city center, it's beautiful parks and gardens, and old Roman town center. I discovered a great local brasserie called La Réserve on Blvd. Amiral Courbet with a lovely tree-lined view, friendly staff, excellent food, and vibrant neighborhood flavor. I'll definitely be back to discover more!
Wonderful staff, excellent service, location comfort, great value.
I had a bad fall during my trip and had to extend my stay in Nimes.
I was extremely happy with my 11 night stay.
Family owners and excellent staff. Both owner family and other staff were so kind and made me feel safe and at home.
Please note, even before my fall ( day 3), I had decided to give this hotel an excellent review as I was extremely happy with it.
Service, location, comfort, value for money all great.
I highly recommend this new hotel and hope it does well.
The location was great! Nimes is a small town so everything was within walking distance. The train station was less than a 10 min. walk to the hotel and the Arena is only a few min walk from the hotel. There are so many cute little shops and delicious restaurants close by. The woman that runs the breakfast area was so sweet and a hard worker, constantly refilling everything so there was plenty of options constantly. The front desk staff was also very helpful- especially when we did our laundry and the machines wouldn’t work for us.
Great experience. I love the warm welcoming with one of the staff opened the door for me, another one who take my luggage to the room, and the champagne that they offer. The room was big and could easily suit for 2 people. The bed was comfortable and I loved the shower there. Plus big bonus for having "Q-tips" in the bathroom. The hotel located near the Jardin de la fontaine and Maison Carrée, but it's possible to walk to the Amphitheatre as well. There is a bus stop near the hotel. Thank you for the welcoming :)
Really comfortable and spacious apartment in a perfect location. We stayed for 5 nights and we loved it. Comfortable bed, good shower. Very close to all of the sights in lovely Nimes. Well equipped kitchen, even a full oven. Carrefour city less than 5 minutes walk away. There is free WiFi, even though the listing says there isn't. We had a slight electrical issue when we first arrived, but the owners sorted it out within 5 minutes. The best place we stayed in our 3 week tour of France.
A fabulous, historical hotel in the centre of Nîmes, within walking distance of all the main Roman sites. The little side streets are full of cafés and restaurants and it’s a lovely area with a great vibe. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the room was beautiful - very large and luxurious. We requested a massage in the spa area and they were quick to arrange it. The Michelin starred restaurant, Rouge, in the hotel is amazing and we really enjoyed the tasting menu there.
Nice hotel in the center of Nimes, located at the beautiful place d´assas, including a bar and a restaurant (inside and outside) with a good menu.
The open space of the place is great for a sundowner and the very friendly team offers a perfect service.
Parking is easy, in a public parking directly under the hotel.
Walking distance (5-10 minutes) to most monuments, museums and the inner city (shopping) with lots of nice little stores.
I am a repeat guest at this hotel and highly recommend staying here when visiting Nimes whether for work or pleasure. The hotel is immaculate and all staff are professional, courteous and extremely helpful. On this visit we arrived early and at first there was no room available but the head of reception went out of his way to have a room cleaned for us within less than an hour. We visit Nimes frequently and always stay here.
The location is fantastic: surrounded by nature, far away from everyday noise, but at the same time not too far from the city. Nothing is left to chance, everything is taken care of down to the last detail (cleanliness, decor, etc.) The owners are exquisite, helpful and ready to welcome you and make you feel at home. This is the ideal place to relax and get in touch with this fantastic piece of France.
It is a very good stopover hotel, close to the motorway with excellent restaurant and a small pool, outside bar area. Also close to drive into the centre of Nimes which is well worth a visit. Not sure about the public transport options as we had the car. Free parking was available and the pool is a welcome late afternoon spot to relax in when coming back from exploring Nimes.
Everything was great, as shown in photos!
Also to Highlight that we were left with plenty of cold water bottles which was a really nice touch considering the extreme hot weather in Nimes those days. We would recommend the place. We found a parking spot in front of the apartment and left the car there during our hole stay.
Beds were comfy and the AC worked perfectly too.
This was our last stay after three weeks in Germany and France, so we were traveling heavier that normal. The owner was extremely helpful and polite - even helping us with our oversized/heavy bags up and down the stairs and and assisting us to the train station on our last day. Bed was extremely comfortable. Hot tub was Great and large enough for two :-)
While a basic hotel, our room was spacious, clean and had everything we needed. It was located across from the railway station and offered convenient, reasonably priced car parking. Nimes Arena was about a 15 minute walk, with other attractions further away. Breakfast was good, and the staff were always helpful.
This hotel is very close to Gare de Nimes and to the famous Nimes arena. Its location is perfect, in the middle of old town, But the room is very small and the bathroom is even smaller. Nevertheless, it is good for one or two nights in Nimes for solo travelers or backpackers.
Exceptional location, very close to the Nimes Arena & other tourist attractions. The staff was great and very helpful -- spoke excellent English, making communication very easy. The hotel is clean, charming, and offers an excellent breakfast.
We booked this hotel fifteen minutes before arrival and was surprised at the cost to value presented. The room was very clean and cozy, lots of outlets for device charging, and a new looking bathroom. There was gated parking as well.
This pleasant country hotel convenient to Nimes was a highlight of a multi country trip. Our hosts could not have been kinder or more accommodating. Be sure to have dinner there if you can. It's worth it.
The apartment has charm, it is located in an old building in the historic centre , 5 minutes away from a parking garage at the main market. You can walk everywhere you need as the main sites are close.
Beautiful boutique hotel in a great position in Nimes. Lovely staff. Everything necessary for a comfortable stay. Great position for exploring the city.
No frills hotel! Super close to everything and somewhat of a discount for parking. I would recommend this hotel for a 1 night stay when visiting Nîmes.
