Not much to see, just quite a lot of beatiful grafiti, some vintage "ascensors". Beaches are quite far away.
But the city itself is downright filthy and not very safe. Many locals told us. Some MF took my girlfriend's cell phone and ran away. I chased him and got the phone back, but when I caught him he reached under the t-shirt probably holding a gun. I only had a knife so I gave up my vengeance. Be very careful even during the day!

Valparaíso is a beautiful place with very nice streets with loads of art. It’s has also nice beaches quite close. If you enjoy being on a beach a few days, it’s a good place for a few days more. If you don’t like to spend days at the beach, 2 days are enough, in my opinion.
The Restaurant „la casa verde“ was my favorite restaurant. The food and the pisco sour have been very delicious and the staff was very kind.

Filthy, dirty and smelly port town and not at all what I had imagined and hoped for. New Year's Eve there was special with the concert and fireworks but apart from that , there's nothing there. The streets stunk of urine and that was even before NYE ! It was truly an awful experience.

The neighborhood we stayed is was fine, but there are many areas of Valparaiso that are not safe. Street thieves are prevalent, and it is best to stay to the "touristy" areas that you feel comfortable. We were there for New Years, and most of the experience was great.

Valparaiso is a great big hug of an artsy town! Wandering the streets, you'll never tire of the amazing murals and graffiti art. I did a walking tour with Ecomapu and it was wonderful. Really a get way to learn about the city and see amazing art. I felt safe walking around - no worries.

Loved this vibrant, colourful city full of hills, breathtaking views, funiculars and street art!
Valpo Street Art tour well worth taking - free, you give a tip at the end if you wish.
When you have had your fill of wandering the streets admiring the abundant street art and great harbour views, recommend a visit to Caleta Portales fish market, where you will experience a sensory overload, with fishing boats being unloaded, vendors shouting and gutting/filleting fish, loud music, seagulls swooping for fish scraps, and a melee of pelicans and sealions along the sea wall and the beach behind. Great place if you want to spot some wildlife and soak up the atmosphere.
Good restaurants we tried include La Concepcion, Inquilino, Casalegre, Cocina Puerto.
Vina del Mar is almost joined on to Valparaiso, and is a much slicker, more sophisticated resort. Pretty, but lacking the character and atmosphere of Valpo!
We stayed in Valpo for 2 weeks, and this was our favorite stay. Wish we had stayed here instead of the awful Airbnbs we tried. Excellent large complimentary breakfast. Loved the kitchenette so we could make food for the little one who needed to eat at non-Chilean meal times :). Every single staff member was super helpful, kind, and fun. The rooftop cannot be beat, and we tried many others in the area. Large clean bathrooms with hot water. Extremely comfortable bed and the sleeper bed as well!
This quirky guesthouse is in a residential neighbourhood. The rooms on the top floor have ensuite bathrooms. The rooms on the lower floor have private bathrooms down the hall from the sleeping accommodation. There is a patio off the upper storey and a fridge accessible for all guests (handy for chilling delicious Chilean wine). The breakfast each morning was delicious, and the staff were very helpful. Well located for venturing out to explore Valparaiso, this guesthouse was lovely.
A wonderful boutique hotel ideally located in the heart of the historical district of Valparaiso. Catalina was very helpful in recommending different restaurants (the best was Maralegre which happens to be nearby). She even gave me some coins from her own wallet to take the ascensores as I did not have pesos with me. Everything served for breakfast is home made, and you can tell. I can only highly recommend this place when staying in Valparaiso
Great location, good for local restaurants, quiet, great room with roof terrace and terrific view over the city and the sea. Not far to walk to the home of Pablo Neruda (Chilean poet, worth the visit). Very friendly and helpful manager and staff. “Magic Chile” taxi company (Felipe and his drivers) brought us from San Antonio port (60 miles) and took us on to Santiago airport about 60 miles again) was reasonable, prompt and reliable.
- plenty of bathrooms, always enough toilet paper
- FINALLY a decent comforter for the beds in Chile. Other hostels use a heckton of blankets that still leave you wanting for something warmer. This is it! Best I have slept in weeks was here!
- socket right next to the bed
- plenty of lockers to choose from
- yummie breakfast
- fast and cheap laundry service
The room was clean, comfortable, and had a nice balcony with a great view. The breakfast was tasty and had a variety of hot and cold items including fresh fruit. Staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel was located in a good area of the city and there were lots of interesting streets, with building murals, and restaurants, that were easily accessible.
Great location in Valparaiso, great decor, comfortable bed and room, the pool is good to cool off in, the outside patio has great views. We enjoyed many bottles of wine bought at the hotel outside enjoying the spectacular views from the garden patio. Loved our stay.
Boutique hotel located in the historical centre of Valparaiso. Close to many good restaurants. Room was large and bed comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful. And breakfast was delicious! (pancake with milk caramel, scrambled eggs sandwitch etc)
The breakfast and dinners that I had there were excellent: a good job because the hotel is in a residential area and not many facilities nearby.
The staff were all really helpful and nice and went out of their ways to help me arrange some trips
It’s a beautiful little hotel in one of the best locations in Valparaiso—right near the ascensor of Concepcion Hill. They have a nice garden with a great view. The rooms are cozy and the breakfasts are exceptional.
The entire hotel is beautifully designed and we loved the location in the heart of Valparaiso. The hosts also go above and beyond on the breakfast in the morning and answering any questions of the guests.
The view was absolutely amazing and the charm of the hotel made it a fun experience. It was also close to many things and made it easy to come and go. The staff was extremely engaging and accommodating.
It is a beautifully furnished hotel with lots of great art making this a unique experience in a very interesting neighbourhood in Valparaiso. Lots of delicious food options in walking distance.
Our stay was perfect. Rene was the best host and he taught us about Chile and Chilean culture. Further, the location is great! All in all, we cannot recommend this place enough.
