Faro is the picturesque capital of the Algarve region, offering colourful streets and buildings, Moorish influence, and typical Portuguese charm. It is encompassed by the lagoon of Ria Formosa Natural Park, and offers wide beaches, a laid-back atmosphere, and a vibrant nightlife.
Occupied by Phoenicians and Carthaginians, and once an important Roman harbour and Moorish culture capital, it was almost flattened by the 1755 earthquake. Happily, the historic centre survived and is today one of best preserved in Algarve. Choosing a hotel in Faro’s Old Town will allow you to have a more authentic Portuguese experience.
The long, sandy beach of Praia de Faro is 7 km from the city, and the beach on Barreta Island –also known as Deserta - is probably the most tranquil in the region. Hotels near the beach in Faro and the surrounding towns of Olhão, Tavira, Quinta do Lago, Quarteira and Vilamoura, are all excellent ways to enjoy sunny Portugal.
Faro International Airport offers connections throughout Europe, and the city also offers ferry, railway, and bus links. Whether you need a beach resort or a hotel near Faro Airport, check out the wide offer available on Booking.com!
Faro was beautiful and so peaceful at this time of year.
Faro was beautiful and so peaceful at this time of year. More bars were starting to open up towards the end of my stay. The beaches were amazing. Ilha Deserta and Ilha Tavari are well worth a visit and worth staying a few hours to really enjoy them.
I loved walking round the old town and plenty of places to take a rest and relax.
I also really emjoyed being able to get to islands by boat and going to the beach by boat is far nicer than going on the bus (and not a long walk when you get off as there is with the bus).
I didn't do the usual sightseeing places as I was there just to relax and destress. I enjoyed having lots of space on the beaches and the streets being queiter though still a bit busy.
I could easily have spent another week exploring.
The people are friendly and very polite. Cars stop to let you cross the road and it was like nobody was in a rush.
Used the train to get to Tavari then got a boat out to Ilha Tavari.
All the time I was in Faro I never felt unsafe and never got any hassle. I went out alone in the evening and felt comfortable.
I would definitely recommend a stay in Faro. As the days passed I fell more and more in love with Faro.
Great bus service, train service and ferry boat service - especially considering it was out of season.

Faro is an excellent city for a short break.
Faro is an excellent city for a short break. The weather in February was amazing, the area is on the up, the local people are so welcoming and the food and drink scene is emerging. We took the shuttle to the Ilha Deserta which was fantastic and a complete change from being in the centre of Faro. We ate at Epicur which has amazing reviews but we ended up in the middle of a private party which wasn't that relaxing. The food was amazing however and the service was great. We had drinks at Bago, and the sunset cocktail bar, both of which were also amazing. The highlight was lunch at Estamine on the Ilha Deserta. The food was delicious but the setting takes your breath away. Would highly recommend.

Faro has a wonderful old town centre with lots of stores, restaurants and things to see like the walled town area. The town is very clean and well taken care of. The town is nice to walk around.
We took the ferry to the beach which was about half hour and walked the beach area.
The train and bus stations are close to the city centre which makes it convenient to walk and travel.
This is a great place to spend 3-4 days.

Lovely people, easy to get around, excellent food and drink.
Not millions of things to do but if you’re happy pottering around and just chilling then this is a good place.
No time difference either. Bonus!
Can’t think of anything I didn’t like, however beware if you’re heading to Ria Formosa national park and Praia Barrera beach you CAN NOT walk there. You need to get on a boat. The website looks like you can walk but it’s deceptive.
Convenient for Airport and onward journey next day. We were able to get a good, inexpensive meal in the restaurant at 10pm at night after arriving from Faro Airport.
Hotel is much nicer than in photos.
Large bathroom and room. Very comfortable beds. Good choice at breakfast in pleasant breakfast room.
Friendly staff.Free parking.
There was a music and dancing event on in restaurant as it was Friday night. We enjoyed the family atmosphere and music stopped by 11.30pm so not a problem. Would stay again. Great price with breakfast included.
The apartment is right on the beach facing the ocean and the view is amazing. The location was just perfect.
It's extremely easy to access from the airport with the No 16 bus, dropping you off at the bridge of Praia de Faro, after that it's only a 5 mins walk to the apartment.
Catarina who manages the property is very contactable by what's app and is always at the end of the phone. She is amazing. Thanks Catarina for making our stay so perfect!
The property looks very new. It’s a walking distance to everything. The room is very comfortable and has everything for a short or extended stay. The Wifi is the fastest in all the hotels I have stayed, which is very important for us who work remotely on the trip. We cooked and used the laundry. Communication with the owner was very easy and prompt. I would stay here again and would recommend it to anyone who would stay in Faro.
The hotel is at the center of Faro. Very close to the tourist attractions and the Marina. Also very close to the airport.
The room is big enough and the bed was comfortable.
The staff were friendly and very helpful especially the hotel receptionist when we were checking in ( Jao), I probably spelt his name wrong. He was super informative about the place. Thank you.
Overall our stay was lovely and will come again to stay.
We had a late arrival and keys left in key box with codes given to us - really easy process. It was in a perfect area for us - we could walk wherever we wanted. close to the waterfront, bus station, shops and great restaurants. We had breakfast at the Cinderela restaurant (which was included) which was really good!! We love Faro and would definitely stay at Casa Portugal on our return - host was amazing!!
Very easy self-check in at the house located in a quiet neighborhood. Spacious and well-equipped rooms with a clean, shared bathroom. Conveniently located next to the airport (15-20 min walk), the nicely decorated house has a homey vibe and offers everything you need for a last or first night in Portugal. Highly recommended for anyone who passes through Faro. Great restaurants in close proximity, too.
A small hostel situated directly on the beach. Just ten steps away and you have the sea! Its a short 10 minute drive to the airport and then you can take the ferry from the beach into the Faro downtown for 2.30 euros one way. The beach is quiet at night and even though the hostel was full it was not too loud at night. It was fairly clean and a good deal for the money.
Very close walking distance to Faro Rodoviario bus and train station. In the city center, close to everything. Small but comfortable for two people.Very clean modern, fresh nice sheets, new hotel. They do a good job to be environmentally aware and support conserve energy and water trend. Room had everything we needed.
The location was in the heart of the old city, and perfect. Very close to bus and train stations. The room had a refrigerator, which I have found lacking in Portugal rooms. Also a hair dryer. The staff, especially Chef and Stella, went out of their way to ensure that my room was what I’d booked on booking.com.
Great views and the room was above my expectations. We stayed at the hotel just one night before any early morning flight but if we had wanted to spend more time in Faro, this would have been our first choice. Very spacious, great amenities, and could see it as a great long term stay option.
location is awesome (1 min away from the beach and good cheap cafe, 5 euros uber from the airport)
staff is very chill and helpful, cheap and cold tap beer
definitely the place to stay in faro if you wanna meet people and chill at the beach in the same trip
For my first time in Portugal EVER, it was beautiful to find this little hostel nearby Faro airport
The beautiful young women and men were so caring and friendly and professional !
A beautiful welcome to Portugal for me!
Muito obrigada xo
