Oban is a city built around a late 18th-century distillery that produces one of the finest single malt whiskeys in Scotland. This normally peaceful town is invaded during summer when tourists use it as a base to visit the Inner Hebrides islands such as Mull, Lismore and Coll, supporting its status as the Gateway to the Isles.
The horseshoe-shaped Oban Bay is sheltered by Kerrera Island with its spectacular Gylen Castle. Award-winning seafood restaurants and lively pubs line George Street and the waterfront of Corran Esplanade adjacent to the harbour.
Take a short walk up the hill to McCaig’s Tower, a structure based on the Roman Colosseum, for the finest views of Oban’s centre and the outer islands. When you get back down to sea level, stroll into and stumble out of the Oban whiskey distillery after sampling the local version of the 'water of life'.
Admire the coastal scenery as you travel a bit out of town to the 7th-century ruins of Dunollie Castle, home of the Clan MacDougall. The Firth of Lorn gives visitors a fanatstic opportunity to try some sea kayaking.
As the capital of North Argyll, Oban has a great selection of hotels, guest houses and B&Bs available on Booking.com.

Oban is lovely especially in summer I have been many times over the years and mostly stayed in great Western Hotel with my late husband. This year I travelled in February it was cold and raining but that did not detract in any way from my enjoyment of oban. I love the place

i went at new year hoping to find a ceilidh on somewhere without success i went to the coreyvrecken wotherspoons for my meals which was also first class. what i would avoid on my next visit would be tescos £5.25p breakfasts. i ordered the breakfast with a cup of tea the teapot was out of a dolls house and the cup was like a soup bowl. i also got two slice of toast with butter full cost £8.65p i went back and queried the price and they said it was right. £1.90p for the dolls house teapot £1.50 FOR 2 SLICE OF TOAST WITH BUTTER and £5.25 for the breakfast a total of £8.65 a shear rip off. in wotherspoons i got the same for £7.04p but with a huge mug for your tea and as many refills as you like first class. i tried to see the tescos manager but he wasn't there in this day and age £1.50 for 2 slice of toast a whole loaf only costs £1.30 hope you can take it up with tesco

Oban is the gateway to the islands so lots of ferries operating here and plenty of choices for other places to visit while staying in Oban.
There are lots of shops and restaurants within a few minutes walking distance and plenty of fantastic views to be had along the esplanade.
All in all a great place to visit.

The seafood was absolutely amazing, went to two seafood restaurants one on the jetty @ the ferry terminal ( The Waterfront Fishouse)and one on the north pier ( Ee-usk ), both restaurants food were fabulous. If like me you like a Guinness then go to the Oban Inn for a nice pint of the black stuff. We stayed out of town at Benderloch before our only night in Oban, we booked a room at The Scot hotel. This was a nice and central stay with the shops, bars and restaurants in close proximity. Will most probably be back to experience more that Oban and the surrounding area has to offer.
Breakfast was lovely and piping hot. So nice ordering Breakfast rather than choosing from a buffet. Evening meal also very enjoyable. The front lounge was very comfortable and relaxing. The staff were all very friendly and polite. Hotel is in a lovely part of Oban. Oban town is quite poor with a lot of shops and cafes/restaurants now shutdown but still a nice walk along the front. Had a lovely meal in The Olive Garden and EE-USK.
It was comfortable and the staff were very good and pleasant. The lounge was lovely and the setting of the hotel was beautiful. It was £200 a night. The bedding is remarkable and only matched for me by the Langham in Melbourne, memorable. We didn't eat there but the coffee in the lounge was good. Nice distance from Oban, enough to feel privacy and peace (except the renovation works) but close enough to visit in 15m drive.
It is located overlooking stunning scenery, and within short car journey to Oban. It is dog friendly, and our dog coped well with her first experience staying in a hotel, as the arrangements for pet owners were excellent. The room was pleasantly decorated, and the beds were comfortable. Cleanliness of the room was of a high standard. Staff were friendly and efficient.
The rooms were extremely clean (good sign when dog doesn't endlessly sniff the carpet!) Great sea view. Staff incredibly helpful, comfortable bed, food excellent - proper Scottish fare. Extremely pet friendly hotel for a brilliant price. Stayed in the winter and room was lovely and warm. Closer to Oban centre than appears on google maps. I will return.
Lovely hotel with rooms that had all the necessities as well as some nice extras like afternoon tea. The room was clean and nicely decorated. Staff were attentive and helpful. We enjoyed coming back after a evening around town and having a cocktail at the bar located in the hotel. Highly recommend this place if staying in Oban.
We booked to stay in Oban for 2 nights for our mini moon having been let down by a previous hotel booking this was a last minute dash to get somewhere. I was slightly worried but I shouldn't have been hotel was spotless room was spacious and staff were lovely. I would definitely stay again when visiting Oban.
After very bumpy first impression (rejected moldy room, non-existent waitstaff), rest of stay was uneventful. The very new bathrooms are nice (rain shower head, etc.) but the very worn finishes in common areas (fire doors, stair carpeting) make you feel like you’re in the opposite of a royal hotel.
The hotel was fantastic breakfast was fantastic enjoyed my pancakes and bacon and the avocado on toast staff were so happy and helpful nothing was too much trouble would recommend it in a heartbeat the locals of the town were helpful and friendly too Oban is a fantastic place to be
I liked the complimentary glass of wine on checking in. I liked being about to walk down to the water right in front of the hotel. It wasn't located right in the center of town, but we enjoyed the walk - we needed the walk! Loved the Indian food in the dining room.
This beautifully renovated boutique hotel has been our favorite while visiting Scotland. Staff was wonderfully accommodating, especially Cameron, food was delicious, and the room appointments were comfortable and beautiful.
Our hotel staff is absolutely it lovely because we profoundly deaf they any news help to me us….
It’s was so clean and very comfortable bed..
Only short walks into town at Oban all day..
Great Thanks to Columba Hotel…
Well located - close to the center of the city. The hosts happily accommodated our 11 PM check in as our ferry arrived late at night. Convenient parking, Oban is not flush with parking.
I booked the hotel at the last moment since my train to Oban was late and I missed the last ferry connection of the day to Iona, yet even on a weekend they were able to accommodate me.
Traditional hotel right in the heart of Oban. I got upgraded to a room at the front with stunning views of the harbour, Kerrera and Mull beyond. Kind staff with interesting stories.
I have stayed in this Hotel before and it has a great location and enjoyed a good breakfast. Comfortable room . Lovely sitting area with beautiful views overlooking Oban Bay
Nice little hotel in the heart of Oban, close to everything but off the main roads. Room was clean and comfortable with lots of amenities, staff was lovely and helpful.
